We were commissioned to design a modern single storey flat roof extension to create additional family living space that linked directly to the rear garden. The design created had two key requirements, which were to maximise natural light input and provide free flowing spaces without intermediate internal columns.
Set in a typical 1970′s semi detached street with properties finished with render and pebble dash it was paramount that our design had a modern twist to create its own individual appearance.
The extension was designed with parapet boundary wall details allowing the ceiling heights to be increased within the new space and provide a strong construction junction with the inclusion of a lead lined box gutter system. We included slight overhangs on the main external glazing to provide shade during the summer months and also provide rain cover in the event of a sudden downpour.
The UPVC windows and doors were specially manufactured with grey baked on colorant creating a simple but relevant contrast against the new brick work.
Elegant external down lights were included within the design to provide additional ambiance during evening whether entertaining or relaxing.
