Project Location:
Lancashire
Project type:
Post Office Conversion |
Project Description:

We were engaged to convert two cottages and adjoining news agents into a Royal Mail Post Office and full convenience store with accommodation to the first floor. The client brief was to fully removal all structural central loading bearing elements which included 2 chimney breasts to produce an open plan commercial shop.
Our role was to fully survey, coordinate and instruct our appointed structural engineers to provide a safe and highly functional design. We had to strengthen the existing shop floor to cope with the increased loads provided by new refrigeration units. We redesigned the interior layout to provide a further staircase and access point to the first floor level as the existing current staircase was to be removed as part of the Post Office conversion works. On the first floor level we designed a 2 bedroom apartment with kitchen, living room and bathroom facilities over two floors. We had to devise disabled DDA access points to the new post office and designed produced design options for a secondary side entrance with associated ramped access and level threshold to allow all users full access. The works were completed in 20 weeks and our client has been fully operation since. |
